Humor gives us hope by approaching a situation from a new and unexpected perspective. When done properly – retaining respect for all involved – it can offer relief from the serious frame of mind in which we may find ourselves. Humor is harder and more elegant than wit (I’m good at wit; I know how hard humor can be but I love it because it can be uplifting.)
When a sermon contains humor, I suspect it’s much more than a way of keeping us awake; it helps us understand and remember a message. This photo of our pastors and some of our staff shows how they take their work seriously but they don’t take themselves too seriously. They’re also being creative, planning new ways to share God’s word with all of us. To me that’s wonder-fully hopeful!
