Waiting for the late-January (2018) birth of my first great-grandchild is a wonderful way for me to practice hope in Advent 2017.
To welcome new life into the world always involves hope and expectation. It gives new significance, too, to these words of a 12th Century mystic, telling me that the birth of Christ continues in all of us.
What good is it to
me if Mary
gave birth to
the Son of God
fourteen hundred
years ago, and
I do not also give
birth to the Son of
God in my time
and in my culture?
We are all meant to
Be mothers of God.
God is always
needing to be born.
-Meister Eckhart
