It’s hard to believe that the Rojas family (the Peruvian asylum seekers Gloria Dei is hosting) has been with us only two months. They have already become an important part of the life of our congregation. Sebastian has joined the kids choir and started Sunday school. Stephanie attends the Quilters group on Thursdays. Luis has contributed to the music on Sunday morning, and the current liturgy gives us the option to sing in Spanish. The whole family participates in Wednesday evening supper and activities. Families have invited them to their homes for meals and taken them on outings. The circle of love keeps expanding!
Other news:
• The family is scheduled to consult with an immigration attorney, who will review their case and determine whether she can take it on. We hope that with legal representation, our guests will be in a better position to move toward employment and independence.
• Stephanie and Luis are learning to ride the bus. Last week they went to ALDI and stocked up. They love the prices and the convenience of the store.
• Tech volunteers needed! We are looking for a few people who can offer 1 to 2 hours a month to help Stephanie and Luis address occasional issues with the technology essential for their remote English classes. You don’t have to speak Spanish. Google Translate is a free and easy tool. E-mail Claire Hoyum to learn more.
